Look Unto Him in Every Thought
In the gospel library app, I came across
"Thoughts" in the "Guide to the Scriptures". It reads,
"Ideas, concepts, and images in a person's mind. The power to think is a
gift from God, and we are free to choose how we use our power to think. The way
we think greatly affects attitudes and behavior, as well as our standing after
this life. Righteous thoughts lead to salvation; wicked thoughts lead to
damnation." I believe the damnation spoken of here is our state of mind.
Those wicked thoughts don't bring joyful feelings. They bring pain. And that pain doesn't feel peaceful or free. But we do have the freedom and power to
redirect our thoughts--or choose to change them--and those changes will change how we feel and
how we behave, and can lead to our salvation. Sometimes we have thoughts that aren't necessarily good or bad, but still determine how we feel. And because we're each unique and different, we get to decide if we are ok feeling that way depending on if we want to keep believing that thought our not.
One day while I was studying the scriptures, I started with a question as I've begun doing lately. I wrote down the question, "How can I overcome my fears and have courage to move forward with becoming a life coach?" I began to read, and it was good stuff from the Book of Mormon. After I finished my reading, I still hadn't come upon an answer to my question. So I flipped through my grandmother's scriptures and it fell open to D&C 6:36 where she had marked, "Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not." Talk about an answer to prayer!! Not only had He taught me about not doubting or fearing, but He gave me magic words for a life coach. And He taught me that I can turn to Him in every thought! Is the Lord not so awesome and aware of our every prayer? To top it off, I decided to clean my closet out that day (which I hadn't done since I'd moved in a year and a half prior.) While doing this, I a lovely printed cardstock note fell out from my closet organizer. It had that exact scripture on it. It now sits just below my bathroom mirror. What an amazing Father I have. He CARES!!
After that incredible discovery, I began to ponder what it means to have the Lord's thoughts. If we want to have the His thoughts, we need to ask Him to give us good, believable thoughts that lead to good feelings and great action. If we will look to Him in every thought, He won't give us fearful or doubtful or other negative thoughts. He'll give us inspiring thoughts from the Holy Ghost. So we need to practice listening so we will know what is best to think so we'll feel just as He'd have us feel and we'll be motivated to go and do.
